Matrix Partitions of Split Graphs

چکیده
Matrix partition problems generalize a number of natural graph partition problems, and have been studied for several standard graph classes. We prove that each matrix partition problem has only finitely many minimal obstructions for split graphs. Previously such a result was only known for the class of cographs. (In particular, there are matrix partition problems which have infinitely many minimal chordal obstructions.) We provide (close) upper and lower bounds on the maximum size of a minimal split obstruction. This shows for the first time that some matrices have exponential-sized minimal obstructions of any kind (not necessarily split graphs). We also discuss matrix partitions for bipartite and co-bipartite graphs.

List Partitions of Chordal Graphs
In an earlier paper we gave efficient algorithms for partitioning chordal graphs into k independent sets and l cliques. This is a natural generalization of the problem of recognizing split graphs, and is NPcomplete for graphs in general, unless k ≤ 2 and l ≤ 2. (Split graphs have k = l = 1.) In this paper we expand our focus and consider generalM -partitions, also known as trigraph homomorphism...

We discuss matrix partition problems for graphs that admit a partition into k independent sets and ` cliques. We show that when k + ` 6 2, any matrix M has finitely many (k, `) minimal obstructions and hence all of these problems are polynomial time solvable. We provide upper bounds for the size of any (k, `) minimal obstruction when k = ` = 1 (split graphs), when k = 2, ` = 0 (bipartite graphs...

A set $S = {u_1,u_2, ldots, u_t}$ of vertices of $G$ is an efficientdominating set if every vertex of $G$ is dominated exactly once by thevertices of $S$. Letting $U_i$ denote the set of vertices dominated by $u_i$%, we note that ${U_1, U_2, ldots U_t}$ is a partition of the vertex setof $G$ and that each $U_i$ contains the vertex $u_i$ and all the vertices atdistance~1 from it in $G$. In this ...

Given a symmetric m by m matrix M over 0, 1, ∗, the M -partition problem asks whether or not an input graph G can be partitioned into m parts corresponding to the rows (and columns) of M so that two distinct vertices from parts i and j (possibly with i = j) are nonadjacent if M(i, j) = 0, and adjacent if M(i, j) = 1. These matrix partition problems generalize graph colourings and homomorphisms,...
متن کاملList Partitions
List partitions generalize list colourings and list homomorphisms. Each symmetric matrix M over 0; 1; deenes a list partition problem. Diierent choices of the matrix M lead to many well-known graph the-oretic problems including the problem of recognizing split graphs and their generalizations, nding homogeneous sets, joins, clique cutsets, stable cutsets, skew cutsets and so on. We develop tool...
